Johann Baptiste
A year after his older brother, Peter (m. Resienger), attended his wedding in Germany, Johann and his wife, Maria Wenzril sailed to America in 1887. Tragically, Maria died in childbirth just months after arriving in America. His sisters, Theresa and Anna, helped with raising his son, Peter (Brandner).
According to a story that was told by his son, at one point Johann went back to Bavaria. Not intending to return to America, he sold his holdings and told his son, Peter, that he could choose whether he wanted to stay with his aunts or go along. Peter chose to stay in Yankton but, eventually, his father returned, and they went north to Campbell County.
As young men, Johann and his brother, Johann Nepomuk served in the army of the Kingdom of Bavaria. Their portrait is below. This information and portrait is courtesy of Mark Arbach.
