Max Huber

He lived from 9/22/1848-1927. We don’t know much about Max who came over in 1879. He lived in Yankton with his wife, Catherine Krom, and their son, Louis.

The first year is the date of birth. The second year is when they came to America. Couples with an * did not come to America.

In addition to the two boys they lost as infants, Theresia and Peter would also bury four other children – Anna (11); Caroline (36); Louise (17); and Theresa (29). Louise and Theresa died weeks apart in 1904 – likely from typhoid pneumonia. An article notes that Louise died of this and that her mother, ill from the same thing, was too sick to attend Louise’s funeral. Fourteen months later, Peter would die from a heart attack on November 1905 at 68.

On a happier note, it’s not a typo – Emma (Joseph) and her sister, Bertha (Charles), each married a brother.

Again, two brothers (Slowey) marry two sisters. Maybe Anna and Alice looked at their mom and their Aunt Bertha and decided it was a good idea? (By the by, we also see this pattern again but this time with the Rothmeyers and the Wagners. More on that later in the show.)

By now, you’ve noticed an abundance of people named Anna, Frank, Joseph and Theresa. It appears that they ran out of names.

For clarity’s sake, before a woman is married, her married name will appear in parenthesis. Once she is married, her full married name will appear without parenthesis. For example, Anna Huber married Alois Nipp. Before her marriage to Alois, she is Anna (Nipp). After her marriage, she is Anna Nipp. Regarding the men, the maiden name of their wife will appear in parenthesis before their marriage. Prior to marriage, Alois is Alois (Huber) and after marriage, it will be (m. Huber).

When it’s obvious whom we are talking about, we will drop the parenthesis altogether.
