Franz Xaver Huber
Franz, Peter’s older brother, was the first to emigrate to the US, which he did in 1862, when the Homestead Act of 1862 was promulgated under Abraham Lincoln, the purpose of which was to fill up the Dakota Territory. Franz went to Yanktonr which was then capital of the Dakota Territory.
When he was 42, he married Hedwig Rudolph who was 17. They would have 11 children. Because of this age difference, some of their grandchildren are alive. No, that was not a typo. While they may not remember their grandfather, who died in 1922, they have memories of their grandmother who lived until 1947. She was 90.
